On Saturday, vibes were high and the mosh pit was strong at the celebratory release concert for local band Cosmic Sans’ debut album.

Self-described as an “evil psychedelic jazz rock five piece,” Cosmic Sans has been performing locally for over two years, the members are current and past students of the University of Montana. Though the group has released a handful of singles in the past, this self-titled 12 track marks their debut album, available on most streaming platforms.

Along with Cosmic Sans, local punk group the Skurfs and electronic artist Fish Bwoi performed, all raising money for the Hellgate Rollergirls, a Missoula local roller derby team, who own the venue “The Furnace.” Audience members were encouraged to bring their rollerblades to the venue and show off their skills, but sadly no one took them up on that offer.

The evening ended with Cosmic Sans playing their new album from beginning to end. For the final song, “Saturdays,” lead guitarist, Seamus Jennings, requested that the entire venue sit criss-cross on the floor, as if around a campfire. They’ve certainly come a long way since performing in the Food Zoo.
