After the whirlwind of a Big Sky Conference win, Selection Sunday, and a charter plane to Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday, the Griz spent the day yesterday, Wednesday, March 20, getting ready for their chance at the big dance.
Both teams, the University of Montana and the University of Michigan spent the afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena getting a feel for the environment. The teams were each allowed a 40 minute on-court open practice, pep bands, cheer squads, and all.
The practice was preceded by an afternoon of press conferences and open locker rooms for both teams, though Michigan's locker room was notably more crowded than the Griz locker room.
The Griz will play at 8:20 MDT tonight, Thursday, March 21, against the Wolverines in the first round of the NCAA March Madness Tournament. Michigan is the favorite for a win — Michigan's a second seed while Montana is a 15th —but the New York Time picked Montana as a possible upset victory, giving Griz fans hope.
