Lady Griz beat Northern Arizona in penultimate home game

The University of Montana women's basketball team defeated Northern Arizona University 70-57 this Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 at Dahlberg Arena.

With this win, the Lady Griz tied with Southern Utah for fifth in the Big Sky Conference. The Lady Griz have three regular season games left to move up in the standings. 

University of Montana guard McKenzie Johnston led the Lady Griz in scoring, racking up 14 points total for the team. She also pulled the Lady Griz into their first lead during the third quarter of the game. 

The game started rough for the Lady Griz with 10 turnovers in the first quarter and 15 in the first half. 

"Fifteen turnovers in a half is unheard of for us. It was unbelievable," said head coach Shannon Schweyen. 

The team was behind 20-9 halfway through the second quarter when they started to fight back. In the third quarter, the Lady Griz hit six of their final eight shots and ended the quarter with a 46-43 lead. 

The Lady Griz will play again against Sacramento State on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 2 p.m.. Saturday is also Senior Day and the team will celebrate its three seniors, Emma Stockholm, McKenzie Johnston and Taylor Goligoski.
