The University of Montana men’s tennis team swept a doubleheader versus Whitworth University on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020. The Griz won their morning and afternoon matches 7-0, earning nothing but wins for Montana.
With these wins, the Griz are now 6-3 continuing a five-match win streak into the Big Sky Conference. Montana started off its first game on Saturday strong with a win for sophomore doubles team Milo Benn and Pontus Hallgren, beating Whitworth Pirates opponents Cameron Brewer and Jake Bethards.
The first winning singles match of the day went to sophomore Oisin Shaffrey versus Whitworth’s Ben Bethards, finishing 6-0.
The Griz kept up the intensity for the rest of the morning, finishing off with wins for senior doubles team Max Korkh and Ludvig Hallgren (6-2) and Pontus Hallgren, who won his singles matches 6-0 and 6-3.
During the second round of matches at 3 p.m. the first wins went to Ludvig Hallgren and Korkh as a doubles team once again, and Ludvig Hallgren in his singles match.
The last wins of the day went to the doubles team of sophomore Jack Yount and freshman Josh Watkins (6-2) who both made their first appearances on the team’s lineup, and Josh Watkins during his own in his singles match, 6-1 and 6-3.
The Griz will play Northern Colorado on March 7, 2020 at Peak Racquet Club.
