The 'Maid in the Shade' B-25 bomber plane from World War II broke through a heavy bank of clouds on Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2020, during its descent toward the Missoula International Airport for a stop on the Flying Legends of Victory Tour.

The authentic bomber, maintained by the Commemorative Airforce Museum, saw active duty in the Pacific Ocean Theater of World War II and is one of only 34 still flying today.

Veterans from the Ole Beck Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 209 in Missoula gathered at the Museum of Mountain Flying to greet the plane. They honored the plane with a color guard and gun salute for the plane and got to look inside and admire the aircraft up-close.

The public can view 'Maid in the Shade' in Missoula until Sept. 8. Tours are available in the afternoons Monday through Friday for $10, and tickets can be purchased online or at the Museum of Mountain Flying. Rides in the historic plane are available in the mornings Monday through Friday and must be booked online.
