The University of Montana Griz Volleyball lost to California State University Bakersfield 0-3 in Dahlberg Arena on Friday evening, Sept. 13, 2019. The game was Griz Volleyball's first in the Farmers' State Bank Invitational, hosted by the University of Montana.
The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, fresh off their victory over University of Texas El Paso earlier in the day, opened the match strong, winning the first set 26-24. Roadrunner Sidney Wicks contributed to her team’s lead with numerous assists, as did her teammate Hayley McCluskey with multiple non-returnable spikes.
The Roadrunners won the second set 25-16 and the final set 25-18.
University of Montana senior Missy Huddleston and redshirt freshman Elsa Godwin led the Grizzlies in kills, both charting seven. Redshirt freshman Casey Stites had 20 assists and two aces.

Elsa Godwin, freshmen outside hitter, eyes the ball late in the third set. Godwin scored 8.5 points for the Griz, and had 7 kills through all three sets.
Janna Grimsrud, a middle blocker and senior, blocks a set from the Roadrunners. Grimsrud scored a total 14 points with 11 kills in the match.
