Saved for life
Story by Denny Lester
Montana Kaimin
Leslie Ames, president of the Basset Hound Rescue of Montana, has a unique view on what she does.
āIām the governor who places a stay on the executions of basset hounds, because I send somebody to save them and take them here,ā Ames said.
When a basset hound is in need, Ames does everything she can to give the dog another chance at life. From medical check-ups to tender loving care, Ames, a registered nurse and animal health tech, works all hours of the day to care for displaced animals. Since taking over the rescue in 2000, Ames estimates she and her volunteers have rescued more than 150 animals.
