Smeared shrimp, sleeping student, suing senior

Oct. 2, 3:31 p.m.
One faculty member called UM Public Safety to report that someone smeared old shrimp and eggs on the front of an office door on the third floor of the Social Sciences building. There was also a message left on one of the faculty member’s answering machine stating something to the effect of “You’d better watch your f***ing ass.” It is unclear at this point whether the threatening voicemail and spoiled food were connected.
Oct. 4, 3:00 a.m.
The sound of a gunshot was reported coming from near the UM golf course, Director of Public Safety Jim Lemcke said. “It sounds like poaching to me, but its hard to tell where any of (the gunshots) came from,” Lemcke said.
Oct. 5, 1:34 a.m.
A house party at the Sigma Chi fraternity was broken up after Public Safety officers noticed at least two intoxicated underage males standing outside of the house. “It didn’t sound like a huge party,” Lemcke said. When questioned, the Sigma Chi president told Public Safety that most of the people snuck in through the back. The fraternity was warned.
Oct. 5, 2:34 p.m.
A male in his 50s was reportedly walking around the UC threatening to sue customers within the building. He claimed to be a federal agent of some kind. Officers concluded that the man was not a federal agent. “There might be a mental health issue here,” Lemcke said. The man was asked to leave.
Oct. 5, 5:32 p.m.
A male student was found sleeping in the Food Zoo. He was asked if he needed assistance.
Oct. 5, 10:50 p.m.
A gunshot was heard near the Craighead Apartments in the University Villages. Lemcke said he believes this incident could also be related to poaching.
Oct. 6, 12:00 a.m.
Two males were reportedly following one if the campus escort golf carts on their bicycles. The escort drivers apparently thought this was unsettling, and called Public Safety. The bicyclists disappeared before officers could find them.
Oct. 6, 10:16 a.m.
A .45 caliber bullet was found on the second floor of Jesse Hall and was reported to Public Safety. Ammunition is not allowed in the dorms, Lemcke said.
Oct. 6, 10:38 p.m.
A resident on Rimini Court in the University Villages called to report a female was pounding on the windows of her apartment. The female told officers she was trying to wake up her roommate, but could not prove she lived in the apartment building. Officers discovered the female had a warrant out for her arrest, and she was promptly detained.
Oct. 8, 7:35 p.m.
Public Safety was called to assist city police about a mile down the Kim Williams Trail to deal with a man who was yelling at people across the river, and apparently stick-fighting against an invisible man. According to Lemcke, the man, who was unharmed in the scuffle, was asked to leave. “No injury to the invisible combatant either,” Lemcke said.
Oct. 9, 3:29 a.m.
A male was removed from a woman’s dorm room in Aber Hall. The male, who was not a student, was drunk and combative in response to a medical call for his welfare. The male eventually left.
