'Know your rights' deserves respect

Last week’s “Know your Rights” panel discussion was interesting and fun. Big respect to ASUM, the ACLU and Citizens for Responsible Crime Policy.  Positive public involvement is an important part of local and national policy development. I was curious to see negative comments about this event. Dan Stusek’s letter was interesting because essentially he questioned claims made by local drug policy reform activists.

Dan, do you think the government can incarcerate everyone who disagrees with their “laws”? More than 94 million Americans over age 12 have tried cannabis at least once (NIDA, 2003). Hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted by law enforcement agencies, yet illicit drugs of all kinds are more available than ever. Drug prohibition is costing our society more than drug abuse ever will. As a drug policy reform activist, I am always trying to learn about this issue. Please back up your statements about wasteful ballot initiatives, because I am not aware of any. If you have little understanding of these issues, feel free to contact me @ 207-3071

Oops! I forgot to spell! That’s the “Fred Stapleton Thinks You’re A Joke Award!”

You could also name it the “George Dennison Thinks You’re A Joke Award” or perhaps the “Everybody Else At The University of Montana Thinks You’re A Joke Award” also.
