Main Hall should stay away from UM Productions
Let’s face it, not everything went according to plan with Elton John from ticket sales to the night of show. That is part of the concert industry. Something always comes up. You deal with it and move on. I think it is time for Jim Foley and Main hall to move on.
The head office seemed pretty ecstatic when the Rolling Stones came to town. I did not hear any complaints when Elton John was confirmed or James Taylor for that matter. Main Hall makes a killing for sitting in their offices as UM Productions works sleepless weeks to pull off the biggest shows Montana has ever seen. They have put Missoula on the map.
I do not know what the memo from Howard Rose said, but I do know his client roster includes some of the highest profile artists in the industry. Although his letter should not be shrugged off, it could have been complaining about the smallest of details. For instance, the food was perhaps not warm enough. If it was the food, UM Productions is required to use UC Catering so maybe Foley should worry about that. They are high-maintenance performers that worry about the petty things and it is Rose’s job to complain.
The day Main Hall assumes power over UM Productions, the University will lose a valuable learning experience for students interested in the entertainment field. It will also lose shows like The Rolling Stones, Elton John, and James Taylor. Those artists have played Missoula because of nurtured relationships between UM Productions, The UM Entertainment Program, and alumni currently in the industry.
Foley better think long and hard before he deprives the community of these concerts and the students of valuable life lessons learned while working at UM Productions
