Waiting in line never guarantees tickets

Although I agree the ticketing system for the Elton John concert was somewhat disorganized, I would like to mention that being angry for “waiting in lines and coming out with nothing” is just as ridiculous.  Wristband holders were informed that they were not guaranteed a ticket and they chose to wait in long lines and take a chance with the wristband-lotto system.  What kind of luck were you hoping for when a big act like Sir Elton is coming to little ol’ Missoula?  Especially since the show would be held in the Adams Center where there is a very limited amount of seating.

I’d also like to point out that it may be a fair thing that all tickets were coming from one inventory.  This concert wasn’t put on for just students and Missoula residents, it is for anyone willing to make the trip, therefore, it’s only fair that people in Kearney, Neb., have the same chance of getting a ticket as someone in Missoula.

No one deserves a ticket because they stood in a line, just as someone who waited on the phone listening to a busy signal doesn’t. I empathize with those who feel cheated because they waited in long lines, but it shouldn’t give them a reason to be angry or hostile to others. I suggest looking at where other Elton John concerts will be in neighboring states, and buying tickets online for future performances, even if the ticket outlets claim waiting in line is better.

Fred Stapleton humbly suggests that students get on a waiting list or a lottery system that, if they want to live off campus as freshman and the system is overcrowded, then they be randomly selected to do so.

Overcrowding is perennial. And there are ALWAYS freshmen who want to move off campus no matter how stupid that might seem. So why not get those kids out of the dorm and free up the damn study lounges?
