Washington-Grizzly Champions Center

The Board of Regents approved the construction of the $14 million Washington-Grizzly Champions Center Friday.

The building will have new locker rooms for the football team, a new weight room for all student athletes and meeting rooms and offices.

UM Vice president for administration and finance, Mike Reid, said the next step will be contracting with an architecture firm. Construction will begin late next year.

Kyle and Kevin Washington, sons of Dennis Washington, donated $7 million for the structure.

The University will borrow as much as $5 million for the project. Debt will be repaid through athletic revenues. Student athletic fees won't increase to fund the project, Reid said.

Reid is confident the University will have enough private donations to fund.
