A student walks out of McGill hall on Jan. 16, 2019. The building houses several offices, the ASUM preschool, and the media arts program.

The University of Montana announced Feb. 28 that McGill Hall will reopen for faculty and staff March 9, while computers will be back online March 11.

The reopening follows more than a month of crews clearing the entire building of loose asbestos, a hazardous building material initially discovered above a ceiling tile in December 2018.

Paul Lasiter, vice president of operations and finance, said in a campus-wide email that the first floor cleanup of McGill has kept the building closed for another week.

Although students and staff will be able to utilize the first and second floors, abatement will continue in McGill’s basement for the next three to four weeks.
