Curry Health Center at the University of Montana reported multiple positive COVID-19 cases — all currently enrolled students — in an email UM Alert Thursday evening.

The UM Alert did not specify how many cases were confirmed on campus, or which part of campus the cases come from. UM Director of Communications Paula Short confirmed with Curry Health Center that several students had tested positive within the past 24 hours.

The University is currently working with the Missoula County Health Department to perform contact tracing, reaching out to any close contacts of those confirmed positive cases.

Short said UM would communicate new information as it becomes available in the coming days. Information can also be found at the University's COVID-19 website.

The news comes just days after UM released its Healthy Fall Plan 2020, which outlines the University’s guidelines for an in-person semester in the fall.

Short said these positive cases don’t impact the fall plan directly.

“This was the always the eventuality that we were prepared for in our planning environment,” Short said. “We knew it wasn’t a matter of if, but when.”

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
