Letters to the Editor: Stand for our rights

Following the events of the last week it has become clearer than ever that "We The People" must band together and fight for our rights. Tuesday morning at 1:00 AM Occupy Wall Street was evicted, putting a cherry on top of the more-than-a-dozen evictions occurring at Occupy sites across the United States. Even in Missoula, Occupiers were told by the county Sunday night that campers would face arrest; and this after the county had previously worked with the occupiers to protect their rights to assemble. This is not just happening on public land, but also UNIVERSITIES. Last Wednesday police brutality was used to disband peaceful students, faculty and employees at Occupy Cal, an event our media failed to cover. Students have occupied Cal in the past, but this time they were met with billy clubs, mace and fists. Several students and faculty members were arrested for peacefully standing up for our right to an education and one graduate student had to be treated at a hospital. If the events of the last week do not shock you or make you fear for your rights as an American then you should probably ignore my call. But if you want to fight for your rights to freedom of speech, to peaceably assemble, freedom of the press, an education, and the pursuit of happiness then come join Occupy the Oval every Friday at noon in the UC Atrium (updates on Facebook @ Occupy the Oval at the University of Montana). You may not agree with the Occupy movement, but you will agree that we have certain unalienable rights that NO ONE can infringe upon. Our voice is all we have, but it is also all we need. They have money, we have an Occupation. Friday, stand in Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Cal and all the other Occupations spreading across the globe. All are welcome, WE ARE THE 99%.

Solidarity,

Will Glenn
